This post is a bit silly, but kind of fun. I had an extra "growing reptile egg" leftover from some lootbags, and I thought it might be fun to take pictures of the process. The instructions are to put the egg in a container of water- the reptile will slowly hatch out of the egg, to fully emerge in about 48 hours.

Day 1: 1 pm |
|
Day 1: 10 pm. Starting to crack a bit. |
|
Day 2: 10 am |
|
Day 2: 10 pm |
|
Day 3: 10 am |
|
Day 3: 9 pm I removed the shell at this point. |
|
Day 4: 9 am. Fully grown. |
The package says you can move the reptile to a bigger container, and it will grow to fit the size. I tried this, but saw no difference in size. The alligator ended up palm sized, about 3 inches in length. I did find it was slimy, I washed it off. The whole process is actually quite fun (for me anyway), not bad for a $1.25 toy.
This would be totally awesome to teach kids - especially in school - the process of hatching! (Albeit a bit sped up)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to get a few for my boys - 1 year old and 2.5 years old.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if my girls would like it: 1 year old and 4 years old?.......
ReplyDeleteThe 1 year old is probably too young-but I bet the 4 year old would love it.
ReplyDeleteSoooo awesome... I love this and I bet my son would too. 8)
ReplyDeleteScilib, how old is your son?
ReplyDeleteGood loot bag filler!
ReplyDeleteExactly! I put them in easter baskets, but loot bags for sure. Wouldn't it be fun to have a dinosaur themed party-the "fossil eggs" could be hidden in a sandbox for the kids to dig up and take home and hatch.
ReplyDeleteToo bad my girls are into dolls and princesses right now - well, the 4 year old is lol; maybe the baby will be a dinosaur connoisseaur?
ReplyDeleteWhat would and application be to this? Like how could I use this in a real life situation? I'm doing a science fair project on this and can't think of anything.. help!?
ReplyDeleteFor a science fair project, take a photo every hour and make a photo essay timeline, or video tape it, then edit it to show it sped up.
ReplyDeleteIm using different liquids to show witch one would work better, and how would these eggs growing help someone in a real life situation though? Like is there some sort of chemical in the egg, and if we had that chemical inside us maybe wed grow bigger, something simple like that? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea if there are chemicals in the egg, perhaps if you contacted the manufactor they could tell you.
Deleteis that a realreptile
DeleteNo, it's a toy from the dollarstore.
DeleteOkay thank-you
ReplyDeleteI Got 1 today I named It Connor! Still never hatched yet 4:30 it was 1.25
